Epilogue
Smiling wistfully, Mattie stared at the last line for a few moments. It would sound cryptic to anybody but her.
Extraordinary things had indeed happened to Rhonâen and Matirya. Their unlikely but ever-strengthening union was both celebrated and rewarded in the world of the Fae Rhy. Many privileges were bestowed on them. As long as they remained a couple, they could move at will between the world of humans and the world of their own kin. They could shift between their human and fae forms as much as they liked. They could take on whatever missions they chose, whenever they chose, as long as those endeavors had no evil or destructive intent.
Then something occurred to Mattieâthe story didnât have an appropriate ending. Impulsively grabbing a pen from the coffee table, she carefully wrote in one more line before closing the book. Satisfied, she caressed its cover.
It was the perfect Valentine present.
Tonight, Mattie decided, she and her sweetheart would resurrect the spirit of their first night together. They would make love with a passion both tender and furious. They would worship each other. And from this day forward, nothing as silly as his undiplomatic remarks about her bad cooking would stand between them, even for a second.
Carrying her gift, she padded into the bedroom and crawled into bed beside the truly incredible fae-man she was honored to call her mate. Of course he was still awake, waiting for her.
âYou forgot something,â she said, stroking his brow. âIn the book, your beautiful book.â
He cracked an eye to regard her. âOh? And I thought youâd object to all the poetic license I allowed myself.â
âYou mightâve taken a few liberties with the facts, not to mention my point of view, but I really donât object to much of anything you do. At least I wonât anymore. Youâre too precious to me.â
He lifted her hand from his forehead and pressed it to his lips.
Mattie opened the book to the last page and showed him her insertion.
He smiled that mystery-tinged smile sheâd always adored. âI love you, Isabelle.â
âI love you too, Daniel.â
~ And they would live happily ever after ~
